Roxi enjoys going for walks around the lake, and taking walks around the neighborhood in search of her best friend Millie. She is spoiled daily by her Mama and Daddy as well as her Nana and Papa. She is able to tell everyone exactly what she wants without speaking; she does this simply by pointing with her nose and barking. She loves giving kisses and playing with her toys!

Hidden Gems in Youngstown:
Fellows Riverside Gardens 🌺

- by G.M. Gotti

Fellows Riverside Gardens, Youngstown, Ohio

If you have never been to Mill Creek Park, a great place to start is Fellows Riverside Gardens. The gardens feature a natural rolling landscape and proudly display flowers such as chrysanthemums, seasonal flowers such as tulips, and a gorgeous section with many different types of roses. A large fountain proudly greets visitors as they enter the main section, and a beautiful gazebo has been the site of countless wedding pictures. The gardens also provide an unbelievable view of Lake Glacier from its position high above the water.

There is a modern visitors center containing a library, a gift shop, meeting rooms, and an art gallery featuring some of the best and brightest artists in our area. The building is absolutely stunning and even features an indoor/outdoor café where visitors can enjoy a meal in air-conditioned comfort or outside on a terrace overlooking the lake below. Staff are happy to assist visitors with any questions and to provide insight into the various displays.

The gardens are the site of several holiday events such as the Pumpkin Walk at Twilight, which features a multitude of carved jack-o-lanterns lit with candles. Another event is Winter Nights at the gardens where Christmas lights bring happiness to visitors as they drink hot cocoa. Whatever the time of year, Fellows Riverside Gardens always has something you’ll want to experience.

The best part about all this wonderful beauty is that it is totally free to the public. You can enjoy a stroll along the stone and brick pathways that weave through the various trees, take pictures from the terrace that overlooks the city, and enjoy the entire sprawling twelve acres without spending a dime. The visitors center won’t cost you a penny either, and the café features good food at very affordable prices. It is a wonderful place to take a date for a walk or to enjoy with the whole family, and it is right here in heart of Youngstown. So come on down and check out one of the city’s hidden gems. You’ll be glad you did!

HIDDEN GEM in AUSTINTOWN:
That’s Shaping Strong, Confident Kids—One Belt at a Time

This is a place where tradition, family, and faith come together in a truly unique way. This isn’t just any extra curricular activity, it’s a place where generations of families have trained and grown. In fact, my own family is a testament to this legacy: my kids, my uncle, and even my husband have all trained under the incredible guidance of Grand Master Rosemary Isabella, an 8th Dan black belt.

She isn’t just a skilled martial artist; she’s a true inspiration to everyone who walks through the doors of the center. The school teaches the art of Ji Do Kwan Taekwondo, blending the physical discipline of martial arts with Christian values, creating a nurturing environment where students not only learn self-defense but also build character, confidence, and a sense of community.

For our children, training at Austintown Taekwondo Center has been transformative. They’ve learned the principles of respect, perseverance, and dedication. Meanwhile, my uncle, who is a second degree black belt, has deepened his skills and appreciation for the art, all while sharing this journey with our family.

Now, more than ever, the center could use our community’s support. This local gem thrives on the dedication of its students and the passion of instructors like theirs. If you’ve ever considered trying Taekwondo or are looking for a place where your children can learn and grow in a positive, faith-based environment, we invite you to join us. Let’s help this wonderful local business flourish and continue to inspire future generations!

Next session starts soon! Call 330-792-5988 to enroll now.
