The Bride of Lake Glacier:
The Reflection That Wouldn’t Fade

Mill Creek Park has always been Youngstown’s escape — lovers strolling under stone bridges, rowboats drifting across mirrored water, and weddings held beneath the soft glow of lanterns at Fellows Riverside Gardens. But when the fog rolls over Lake Glacier on autumn nights, the air turns heavy with another kind of stillness.
That’s when some say she appears.
The Wedding That Never Was
In October 1935, a bride named Evelyn Carter was meant to marry her fiancé, a steelworker named James, at the Wick Pavilion overlooking Lake Glacier. The morning was warm, unseasonably so, and the bridal party took photographs near the water. But as the first guests arrived, word spread that tragedy had struck downtown — a blast at the Sheet & Tube plant. James was among the missing.
Heartbroken and disbelieving, Evelyn vanished from the reception. Hours later, her lace veil was found tangled in the reeds by the bridge. The lake remained still for days, as though holding its breath.
The Reflection
Years passed, and the story faded into local whispers — until the park ranger of 1957 claimed he saw her. He described a woman in a soaked wedding dress standing on the water’s edge, gazing at her reflection. But her reflection, he said, did not move. It stared back at him, motionless, even as the trees swayed in the wind.
Visitors since have reported strange chills near the bridge — the air growing cold enough to fog their breath, though no wind stirs. Others swear they’ve seen the faint shimmer of lace floating just beneath the lake’s surface, or heard the faint clinking of piano keys drifting from the pavilion after midnight.
Left Behind
The Bride leaves no footprints, no scent of lilies or perfume. Instead, those who cross her path find a single pearl button — the kind used on 1930s gowns — resting on the railing or along a narrow trail. Some say it’s her way of holding onto the living world, still fastening herself to the moment before she lost everything.
A Word of Caution
Locals say if you visit Lake Glacier near the anniversary of her wedding — October 19th — you should never look directly into the water after dark. If you do… the Bride may mistake you for the one she lost.

Amanda: A Light That Still Shines
There are times when things happen that make us ask the one question no human can really answer: “why?”
Amanda Marie McAuley was a beautiful soul whose life was one of glowing promise. She was a standout at Poland Seminary High School where she was a cheerleader and a member of the swim team, tennis team, and ski club. She entered and won the National American Miss (NAM) Ohio Teen Top Model Contest and went on to the nationals where she became the NAM Teen Top Model. She was signed by a talent agency, and the future glowed with the promise of amazing achievements and seemingly limitless potential.
Until the day came when street-laced fentanyl took everything away; her future, her prospects, and her very life.
The tragic tale of Amanda’s rise and fall has been transformed into a theatrical production called Amanda: She Didn't Mean To Die. This incredible adaptation of Amanda’s life is presented by A.M. Wakeup Call, a non-profit (501c3) organization founded by Amanda’s mom. It will chronicle Amanda’s great life, amazing future, and her tragic end in the hopes that her story might serve to educate and bring awareness to the extreme dangers of fentanyl.
The mission of A.M. Wakeup Call is an actionable call to arms to educate, support, and empower individuals and communities in the battle against fentanyl abuse. Through comprehensive resources, prevention programs, and unwavering support, it is committed to creating a future where the threat of fentanyl is eradicated.
This production will be held at the Edward W. Powers Auditorium, part of the DeYor Performing Arts Center, on Saturday, October 11, 2025. Doors open at 6pm with the event beginning at 7pm. This well-crafted production will weave the narrative of Amanda’s incredible life, promising future, and tragic passing in an emotionally gripping manner that hopes to make the sort of impact that saves other parents from ever having to endure the nightmare of receiving such a phone call. The auditorium is a beautiful facility that will provide viewers the opportunity to experience this emotionally impactful show in comfort.
We pray that God blesses this effort to use this tragedy to save the lives of others. Please consider supporting this cause and being part of making a difference in our community.
